Civils 2000

Worcester Wastewater Treatment Plant, Boland, Western Cape

In 2009 the Breede Valley Municipality commissioned an extension to the Worcester Wastewater Treatment Works to accommodate an anticipated increase in effluent flow rates due to the planned expansion of the town and surrounding residential areas, and to meet effluent quality standards set by the Department of Water Affairs. In addition to general civil engineering construction works, the project included the demolition and remodelling of existing inlet works, structures and concrete infrastructure; modification of the existing settling tanks and associated facilities; emptying, re-lining and upgrading the sludge lagoons, construction of maturation ponds, and improvements to the existing maturation ponds. The project was started in January 2010 and completed successfully in May 2012.
