Overview of the Project
Fuhrländer AG (Germany) appointed Consolidated Power Projects (supplier of the turbines) as the overall civil engineering Project Managers and to execute the electrical construction works for the Project. Civils 2000 were appointed as Civils BoP contractor.
SF-Consult (Denmark) as project consultants appointed Bergstan South Africa as local civil/structural subconsultants to manage the works.
Scope of Work
The Contract included Civil, Structural and Building Work.
The Civil Work component included:
- Site clearance for the access roads and assembly platform areas at each of the 4 wind turbine sites;
- Construction of a new access road to the wind turbines
- Widening and upgrading of the existing roads and construction of new roads to the control room and switch house
- Construction of rotor assembly areas at each wind turbine
- Removal of fencing and pipes
- Reinstatement of fencing and installation of new gates
- Installation of stormwater drainage pipes and structures
The Structural and Building Work component included the construction of the following:
- Four turbine bases and transformer bases
- bulk earthworks
- reinforced concrete turbine bases
- transformer base slab and enclosing fencing
- reinforced concrete meteorologic mast foundation
- cable ducts
Control room / switch house and substation yard
- Formation of platform and gravel road inside fenced yard
- Construction of control room
- Construction of Switch house
- Reinforced concrete external bases and plinths
- Cable trenches & duct sleeves
- Provision of permanent water supply
Eskom substation
- Substation installation
- Gravel road inside fenced yard
